Projects funded will greatly benefit residential and commercial traffic, making Permian roads safer
Midland, TX (Aug. 21, 2025) – The Permian Strategic Partnership (PSP) applauds the Texas Department of Transportation’s continued investment in the Permian Basin following the Texas Transportation Commission’s unanimous adoption of the 2026 Unified Transportation Program, which will guide TxDOT project funding. These directed funds will greatly benefit residential and commercial traffic by improving mobility and making our roads safer.
New allocations for the Permian Basin in the 2026 UTP include critical funding towards:
- $194 million for the Pecos Relief Route in Reeves County
- $38 million for SH 302 in Ector County
“We are grateful for Gov. Abbott and TxDOT’s continued investment in the Permian Basin,” said Debra Richmond, Director of Road Safety with the PSP. “Through the Permian Promise, a cornerstone of Chairman Bugg’s legacy, we are building lasting solutions that protect lives and support growth across West Texas. These resources will make our roads safer, strengthen communities, and ensure the Permian region can keep driving the state forward.”
The 2026 UTP will dedicate $101.6 billion to projects over the next decade. When combined with $45 million for project development and routine maintenance, Texas will invest more than $146 billion in road projects statewide. Thanks in large part to the Permian Basin’s $5.8 billion in oil and gas severance taxes in 2024, all Texans will benefit from priority road projects advancing this decade.
