Permian Strategic Partnership Applauds Texas Leadership for $123M Investment in Beacon Medical Center
State leaders strengthen rural healthcare infrastructure with transformational investment in the Permian Basin
The Permian Strategic Partnership commends Gov. Greg Abbott for signing a historic investment in rural healthcare access into law. With strong leadership from the Governor, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Speaker Dustin Burrows, Representatives Tom Craddick and Brooks Landgraf, Senator Kevin Sparks, and other members of the Texas Legislature, $123 million has been appropriated to support the development of The Permian Basin Medical Center project, The Beacon. This strategic investment will expand rural healthcare access in the Permian region, bolstering the long-term strength of the state of Texas.
The Permian Basin produces over 40% of U.S. oil and contributes billions in state and local revenue, supporting hundreds of thousands of jobs statewide. Although the region’s population is growing rapidly, West Texans face limited access to quality health care. More than a quarter (27%) of Midland-Odessa residents leave the region for care, especially cancer and pediatric patients. And 45% of the rest of the Permian Basin residents leave for care and could be delivered in the region.
The state-of-the-art medical facilities developed at The Beacon will focus on patient care, innovation, education, and workforce development, so West Texans will not need to travel to Dallas, Houston or Austin for medical services.
As an innovative healthcare hub, The Beacon will serve as a national model for investments in long-term health and resilience for other rural regions, positioning Texas as a leader in addressing rural healthcare challenges. The project underscores the power of local commitment, private sector leadership, and now, public support from the state in delivering transformational outcomes for Texas families.
