Permian Basin Elections Decided by Less Than 10% of Area Residents
Permian Strategic Partnership’s 2024 “The Permian Votes” campaign aims to boost voter registration and turnout in November
Midland, TX (September 9, 2024) — The Permian Strategic Partnership (PSP) is again leading efforts to increase the number of residents voting across the Permian Basin and today launched its 2024 The Permian Votes Campaign. This effort seeks to register new voters across the region and encourage participation in the general election on Nov. 5. The campaign will target both English and Spanish speakers in counties across West Texas and Southeastern New Mexico.
“The PSP aims to empower people living and working in the Permian Basin to have a voice in what happens in their communities,” said Tracee Bentley, President and CEO of the PSP. “This rapidly growing region is also changing, and decisions being made now will impact generations to come. Voting is a powerful and important way for residents to influence those changes.”
The campaign takes a multichannel approach, including various forms of advertising, videos and in-person voter registration events. Chambers of Commerce across the region are vital partners in this effort, including the Midland Chamber of Commerce, Odessa Chamber of Commerce, Midland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin, Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, Hobbs Chamber of Commerce, and Monahans Chamber of Commerce.
“We are proud to partner with PSP to actively engage our region’s Spanish-speaking voters,” said Adrian Carrasco, former chairman of the Midland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. “The PSP recognizes that every voice matters and that the Hispanic community is invested in the future of the region.”
“The democratic process is key to long-term growth and a thriving region. Local races, such as school boards and county commissions, can be even more important than the top-of-the-ticket races in the day-to-day decisions that affect people’s lives,” Bentley said. “We encourage every voter in the Permian Basin who qualifies to make sure they are registered and to vote.”
Permian residents interested in learning how to register to vote or to update their registration can find information on the PSP’s election webpage.
The last day to register to vote ahead of the Nov. 5 election is Oct. 7 in Texas and Oct. 8 in New Mexico. Voters in New Mexico are eligible for same-day registration during early voting and on Election Day.
